(Terry Peters photo) Calgary homes most costly Shawingan, Quebec at low end of scale Homes in Calgary’s Mount Royal residential district are the most expensive in Canada, according to a national home price survey just released by Ihe Per- manent Real Estate. The study ~showed the average cost of a typical three bedroom bungalow in Mount Royal at $150,000 compared to a national low of $39,000 for a similar home in Shawnigan, Quebec. In North Van the price shown is $110,000 and in West Van $130,000. The survey, the first of its kind undertaken by = the Nauional realtor, presents data submitted by the company's local offices with the assistance of qualified appraisers across the country. Over 135 major residential areas were sampled. Data on three home types were provided. The first home was a three bedroom townhouse, 1,200 square fect with a common driveway and single garage. The second home way a three bedroom bungalow, 1,300 square feet, with a single car garage The final home type was a two-storcy exccutive home with four bedrooms, 2,200 square feet, featuring a main floor family room with fireplace, and with a double garage. Regional price variations - in the bungalow home type were gencrally in line with price variations in the other two home models. The Vancouver area reported bungalow | prices ranging from $80-$1 30,000 reflecting the upper cnd of the price scale. Edmonton prices were tightly grouped between $80-$90,000. Lawson Heights in Saskatoon registercd Saskatchewan's highest bungalow price at $80,000. in Winnipeg prices were between $60,000 in North Kildonan and $102,000 in Tuxcdo. Ontatio showed = the middle round with prices - ranging from $49,900 in Barvic to a high of $95,000 in Etobicoke, Toronto. Most prices in Quebec were $45- $55,000 with a high of $100,000 in the town of Mount Royal on Montreal Island. A bungalow in Halifax averaged $64,900.
