New season
begins for
local show

NORTH .VANCOUVER’S

Take Part far Kids TV series,

| created by Lois Walker and

‘North Vancouver Take Part

Productions Ltd., begins its
seventh season this week.

The success ‘of the popular

_magazine-style kids’ activity
series, ‘which airs nationally
on -YTV, has spawned a new
Take Part for Kids National
Fan Club.

To date, the series, which is
syndicated in Canada as well
as Saudi Arabia, has received
125,000 letters since its initial
Jaunch i in 1988.

This fall the series moves
from its 9 a.m. time slot to
1:30 p.m.

Usually a youth is recommended
to Seaview through school,
friends, family or the courts.

However, if a youth wants help
he or she just has to call Seaview
and talk to someone.

Seaview provides educational
presentations and prevention and
intervention services, along with
individual, group, and family
counselling.

Jay King is one of the youth
workers at Seaview who devotes
his time counselling youth not
only about substance abuse but in
all aspects of life.

He has been helping to establish
a teen centre on Bowen Island and
at the same time support and at-
tend meetings of the North Shore
CAPSA (Community Action fer

Prevention of Substance Abuse),
along with his everyday work.

One busy man! Yet he always
has time for those who need help.

King says that the kids teach
him, for the fascinating thing is
throughout the years style, music,
and attitudes of youth have
changed, but their feelings are the
same,

They are still struggling to
become their own person and still
dealing with the same problems:
school, family and peer. pressure.
Aduits seem to forget these things.

Seaview, with the assistance of
King and many others, tries to
provide help for those youth who
have difficulty becoming their own

. Person and who have chosen drugs

or alcohol as part of their lives.
