John Couldn’t pass up opportunity From Page 18 Since then it’s been steady work for Cronin — though not always quality, she admitted. “I've had vears that were really great and I’ve had years where I haven’t worked at all,” said Cronin. “Ycu kind of think that once you get one role you'll get a bet- ter role and then a better role and then another. It didn’t happen that way for me, at least.” Unfortunately, at the same time she was given the nod for Ed, her father was also diagnosed with liver cancer, which forced Cronin into a corner. “It was just a crazy time because I had never left home before and all of a sud- den when I suddenly have to go I find out that it’s the worst. possible time to be away,” said Cronin. “I was concerned about leaving him, but he wouldn’t hear of me staying in Vancouver. I also knew that this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.” Sadly, Cronin’s father didn’t get the chance to see his daughter's small screen debut. He passed away not long after Rachel moved to New York. While he was always encouraging and supportive, said Cronin, he also urged. her to have a trade to fall back on if the acting gig did- n’t pan out.
