Collins was joined by dozens of supporters on Monday in the first day of a month-long human rights tribunal hearing allegations that the veteran journalist exposed Jews to hatred or contempt. The hearing is the first in Canada in which a human rights iribunal is considering a complaint over a newspaper column. Ic was made possible by the passage in 1993 of Bill 33, the NDP’s amendment to the Human Rights Act, which prohibits the publication of material that “indicates discrimination” or is “likely to expose a person or a group or class of persons to : Wilsons' .
