A month after arriving here in June 1979,
Lewis gota job driving cabs for North Shore

in a place near the Avalon Hotel at the time.

He has been head dispatcher at the com-
pany for more than two years. There are

about 450 people who drive
cabs for the company. Ona
busy Friday shift, 80 cabs are
on the road.

Lewis himself hasn’t been
behind the wheel ofa cab for
about three years.

He was around when the
cabs were ail painted a dis-
tinctive two-tone aqua blue.

As most North Shore com-
muters, Lewis wishes the
bridges “would go away”
this summer.

So what does the cab dispatcher do for
