Introducing Your Cat to the Family

Introducing your new pet to the family can be an interesting yet difficult process. One of the
key things to remember is patience. Rarely do the vz: .ous animals get along right away but
there are a few tnings you can do to make the transition easier. It can commonly take two to
four weeks for the new cat to accept the other animals in the house and vice versa.

It is advisable to keep the new cat separate from the other pets for the first few days, even if
this means the new cat will have to stay in the bathroom. Expect some hissing.

After a day or two, introduce the cat to the other animals. | found that by introducing my
new cat “Karma” in a pet carrier allowed her to come out in her own time and sniff out her
surroundings. Of course, this also gave her the opportunity to scratch the dog who had been
eagerly awaiting her arrival, but being the good natured beust he is, he went and hid in |. x.

Always give overloacis of love and affection to the first pet. Feed them first, pet
them first, let them know you still love them. This will save lots of aggravation in the
tong run, while the pets will decide amongst themselves who will be dominant.
