One unit is sold under the Eveready Explorer brand. it is model no. 17939, which is yellow with black and white ‘‘Eveready”’ lettering down the barre! of the flashlight. The water- proof/fioating flashlight has been available since June 1989. Eveready estimates there are 7,500 units with consumers across Canada. The other unit is model no. FGS2 that has been on the market since 1988. It is black with red “Eveready” lettering down the barrel. Approximately 15,000 units are in the market. Shipments of both products to retailers have been stopped and the company has also ordered an im- mediate recall of the product from stores, Both units are similar in design Large selection of concrete planters now in stock and operate on four ‘‘AA’’ bat- teries. Company spokesman Wayne Uren said Eveready has ordered the recall since there was one known incident of product malfunction. No one was seriously injured in the one incident reported to the company in November. He stressed that while the chances of malfunction are ex- tremely slight, the company has nonetheless decided to recall the product. The circumstances under which product malfunction could occur would involve an unlikely com- bination of improper battery in- stallation, continued operation of the flashlight for between one and three hours plus the introduction of an electrical spark. “‘We are asking consumers with either of these flashlight models to return them on a collect basis for replacement,” Uren said. Consumers should send their units with their name, return ad- dress and postal code to: Eveready Canada Inc., 165 Kincardine Hwy. Walkerton, Ontario NOG tren added that minor design modifications are already under way for both products to eliminate the potential problem.
