tennis star, Sonya Jeyaseelan, was
honored with the Bill Gooding
Pemorial Trophy at the University
of British Columbia this weekend
for her outstanding game perfor-
mance in the Tennis B.C. Winter

The No. One seeded Jeyaseelan
received the trophy after making a
perfect sweep at Tennis B.C.’s
junior indoor circuit this weekend
at UBC, beating Kim Frost of
Vancouver 6-3 in the first set,

when Frost retired due to illness,
to take the girls’ Under-16 singles
title.

The victory gave the local tennis
ace her fourth straight title in the
four-tournament circuit.

“This is the first time Sonya has
received a trophy of this size. She's
very happy,”’ said father Reggie
Jeyaseelan, noting that Jocal Ten-
nis star Grant Conneli and other
top players have also been reci-

In other tennis action, Jamie
Buchanan of Abbotsford defeated
Ryan Clark of North Vancouver in
the boys’ Under-18 singles finals.
David Hankin of West Vancouver,
meanwhile, won the boys’ Under-
12 singles final round robin match.

In girls’ tennis action, West
Vancouver’s Lisa Maberley was
runner-up in the Under-!8 singles
final round robin match, and
North Vancouver's Anaa
Nowakowski was runner-up in the
Under-14 category.

Two North Shore players took
places in girls’ Under-12 round
robin match. Michelle Neveklov-
ske of North Vancouver won the
round, with North Vanconver's
Zabra Ahiamed winning the run-
Ner-up position.
