The moncy was raised when salon employees donated their time, and customers gave $5 to the charity in lier of payment for their trim. The Special Olympics also realized $1 from each bear sold in The Bay's pre-Christmas sale of Charity Bears. Gymnasts finish in top ranks A HOST of local gymnasts came “up winners in the recent Elite Canada Selection Competition in Toronto, finishing well up in the ranks. Top 8.C. gymnast, Kristin Wingfield, 17, of West Vancouver, finished eighth overall. with a total of 71.90, moving up from 20th place at the competition last year. Wingfield, a member of the Flicka Gym Club and competing since 1981, came fifth on balance beam with 18.25 and ninth on vault, 18.10, and uneven bars, 17,85. - ; sal Another longtime Flicka Club member and Best Ever gymnast, Ursula -Trpin, 17, finished 10th all-around with 70.50, a move up from 28th place last year, and put- ting her into the high performance group for the first time. An- drews finished "12th all-around with 70.15 points from 29th at the same competition last year. The Tween ‘A’ team defeated Langley Tween ‘A’ squad 1]-2 with strong team passing effort led by Tara Hodges’ hat trick solidi- fying the win. , The Deb Districts team defeated the Belle National Team 5-3. A hat trick by Vivian Behernz and two goals by Lisa Valleau as well as assists by Lynne Baker, Sharon Griffen and Sharon Rolf Icd to the win. The Petite ‘A° Lions defeated the North Shore Winter Club 10-2. Hat tricks came from Sylvia Mag- linz and Lisa Demeule; Joanna Weiler marked three assists. Supported by a strong defence by Carrie McKeliar, Heather Dowling and Keri Jesson, the Lions let only two goals past. Other action saw the Belle ‘B’ Blades defeat the Deb Destroyers 8-5. Handball is an addition to a tacquctball player's skill develop- ment, and lessons will be offered on Monday nights at 8 p.m. star- ting Jan. 25 and on Saturday mor- nings at 9 a.m. starting Jan. 30. LOMSDALE AVE Student lessons are available on Saturdays starting Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. All lessons cover rules, tech- niques and strategy.
