Entertainment artist does his research WHEN JOHN Horton prepares to paint one of his works of marine art, he reat- ly does his homework. By CHRIS WONG Contetbutiny Wriet Take the research Horton did before painting his latest work, Repairs To Discovery. The painting recreates a visit in 1792 by Captain George Van- couver to Restoration Cove (near Bella Coola) where he stopped to make repairs on two of his vessels, The Discovery and the Chatham. To do so, he visited the Greenwhich Mari- tim: Museum in London, exam- ined copies of the actual pencil drawings of the ships and even took a peek at the ship logs Horton also went to the area itself, travelling as he often does in B.C. waters via his 35-foot boat named, appropriately.
