Attempt to persuade everyone to make it a prioity to get together for a meal several times a week, but don’t be = inflexible. Better a pleasant dinner hour with a family member missing than a meal ruined by the resentment of a member who doesn’t want to be there. Calming music can do a lot to set the right mood for a family meal. So can taking the phone. off the hook and. informing neighbours and playmates of the desire to avoid in- terruption. Communication is. important, . -but certain topics should be “off limits” at the dinner table. If you allow ample time away from the table for family members to discuss issues which may be disturbing them, keeping dinner conversation light should pose no problem.
