A FULL-SIZE
OLYMPIC Pool at
Lonsdale Quay
Waterfront Park was

one possibility brought
before North Van-
couver City council as
plans for the park
development were

unveiled Monday
night.

That was one of several
options ranging from
$350,000 for basic grading
and walkway development
to $3 million for the pool and
park design.

The most elaborate
concept of the park included
fountains, pier, tidal pools,
children’s playground, and a
nautical museum as well as
the swimming pool.

The swimming pool would
be of Olympic length but
would have at one end a
“beach”. design to allow
people to run in and out of it,
according to Don Vaughan
of Don Vaughan and
Associates Limited, the
company retained by
council to design Lonsdale
Quay Waterfront Park.

harbor by means of landfill

Preliminary concepts of
the filling were reviewed by

Protection Service who were
opposed to the idea, at least
in the form it was presented.

It is also a very expensive
proposition, Vaughan told
council, and would require a
retaining wall to prevent
erosion.

He said that if council did
go ahead with the idea,
people who want to dump
there should be -charged
enough money to pay for the
wall.

The concept of four tennis
courts, located north of the
railway tracks, was also
presented to council.

Alderman Bill Sorenson
reminded council that the

agreement with B.C.
Development Corporation
was signed on the = un-

derstanding that the park
would have no_ sports
facilities in it.
