NV schools budget tabled

North Vancouver school
board Tuesday night ap
proved the 1981 provisional
budget - a gross figure of
$52,807 ,309.

The budget represents a
9.09 per cent increase over
the 1980 budget but 1s only
provisional and must now be
forwarded to the Ministry of
Education for comment and
then returned to the school
board for final changes and
final adoption sometime in
the spring.

The 18-page budget was
prepared under three
guidelines set by the board

the budget is allocated to
salaries and a_ total of
$28,434,630 is proposed for
teachers salaries in 1981.

Trustee Ernie Sarsfield
commented that the amount
in the budget spent on
teachers salanes has not
grown nearly as fast as the
proportion spent other
salanes

Trustees had some minor
comments on the budget but
stressed that it was not final
and board chairman
Dorothy Lynas said it “can
go up or down depending on
the facts of life.”

Trustee Don _ Burbidge
said that the increases in
teachers salaries have still
not been determined yet and
the board is still considering
a couple of requests for a
reduction in the student
teacher ratio.

He noted that the board
that passes the final budget
will not be the same board
that passed the provisional
budget because of the up-
coming elections.

Only Trustee David Craig
voted against accepting the
provisional budget.
