Asia slide show An audiovisual presenta- tion about a social worker's adventures in the Orient will highlight this week’s annual general meeting of the North Shore Adult Day Care Services Society. The meeting — which is open to the public — takes place at 8 p.m., Thursday, May 29, in the St. Andrew's Church auditorium, 1044 St. George’s Avenue, North Vancouver. Guest speaker will be Ms. Joyce Rigaux, planning consultant for the North Shore division of the United Way. After a brief business meeting, Ms. Rigaux will give a talk and slide descnption of her work with Laouan refugees and her travels throughout southeast Asia. Handcrafted items made by guests of the Centre will be on display, as will a series of pictures outlining the various aspects of the day care program. . Now in its ninth year of operation, the Centre serves elderly people who néed special care, as well as younger, disabled adults. It operates from nine to five, Mondays through Fridays and the 80 guests now taking part in the. program attend for a day or part of a day, once or several times per week, as fits thew needs. TransportaGon to and from the Centre is provided when necessary. highlights meeting A permanent staff of seven, including a social worker, nurse, cook, and program supervisors is helped by some 20 volun- teers from the community who take turns assisting with the varied daily program. A wide range of support 1s offered. Exercises, games, crafts, entertainment, a hot noon meal and morning and afternoon snacks provide plenty of opportunities for companionship. There | is also time for quiet rest for those who need it. Lester Clough dies at 62 Well-known business North Shore man Lester Clough passed away peacefully last Sunday in Lions Gate Hospital, aged 62 Lascelles Born and raised tn Moose Jaw. Sask |. Mr Clough was in business on the North Shore from 1959 onward, having founded his own company here, Western Brake & Clutch Ltd. of North Vancouver. He took up residence on the North Shore with his wife Pauline and daughter Leshe in 1967. He served with the Saska- toon Light Infantry, receiving the Order of the British Empire. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the North Shore Chapter of the Barbershop Society. Funeral service was held at St. David's Church, West Vancouver, with Rev. Davis stated: “This grant represents one-third of the costs required to construct a two-storey community hall on Lillooet Road. This project is being sponsored by the Seymour Inter-River Society. Its board of Jaycee House given funds from Victoria directors. contains members from the North Shore Jaycees, Capilano College, Lynomour Community School and the District of North Vancouver.” He continued, ‘‘I congratulate the North Shore Jaycees for spear- heading this project for a community hall in this area .of the District.” The grant was approved by Provincial Secretary and Government Services Minister Evan Wolfe under 10-4P.M. the facilities the guidelines of recreation assistance program.
