They ensure that fire pro- tection and life safety systems are installed and maintained to the applicable codes and standards. To ensure that the com- munity maintains its excellent fire safety record, they provide the following services to our community: . Fire Prevention Inspections — Fire safety inspections are conducted in all occupancies within the City of North Vancouver boundaries except for private dwellings. Inspections are conducted to determine compliance with the BC Building and BC Fire ' Code Regulations. ‘Code Consultation — The members of your Fire Prevention Office have a great deal of experience in working with code consultants, archi- tects, designers and owners. Code Enforcement —. Code enforcement is exercised to achieve compliance with the codes and ensure fire safe con- ditions in our community. ‘Public Education — Public ’ education is provided to cre- ate public awareness of fire » safety as a personal and com- {munity concern, and then “ endeavors: to motivate the “’ proper fire safe behavior. Fire Investigation. — Thorough fire investigations are conducted to determine fire origin and cause. Analysis of fires in our community helps identify areas that require attention and enables us to provide fire safety infor- mation to the public. Fire Data Collection — The Fire Service Act requires that all fires within our community are investigated to determine if the fire cause was by acci- dent or design. Then a “Fire Commissioner Fire Investigation Report” is com- pleted and mailed to the Office of the _ Fire Commissioner. The Office of the Fire Commissioner uses these statistics to evaluate the fire situation in the province of British Columbia and pub- lishes an annual report. Record Keeping — Records are kept of all inspections con- ducted by the Fire Prevention ‘Office and the subsequent action taken.
