talented percussionists/dancers
an industrial setting littered
with bristle-brooms, plastic
pipe, garbage cans, zippo
lighters, and, yes even the
proverbial kitchen — sink?
Stomp, a riveting celebration
of rhythm.

Halfway through last Wednesday's opening night perfor-
mance of Stomp at the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver, it
became apparent why this, in essence, two-hour drum solo
had captured the collective imagination of audiences around
the world.

The teat. The ancient rhythmic seam within us all is
tapped and thoroughly mined by the six man/two woman
ensemble. ,

The wordless performance is one part pantomime, one
part comedy, and all parts universal. No surprise their 21-
city 1994 North American Tour was a complete sell-out,

the bill when Alan Matheson

leads a tribute to Paul
Whiteman and Friends in a
Big Band Spectacular Friday,
March 29, in Hotel Van’s
B.C. Ballroom.

Former North Van resi-
dent Jennifer Scott wili sing
the songs made famous by
Billie. Holiday and Martha
Tilton. Crooner Densil
Pinnock, notable for his role
as Nat King Cole in
Unforgettable, will also per-
form.
