It can vary but | would say it’s anywhere from $5,000 and up for an original,” Green says. One of his paintings — a signed portrait of Bob Hope con- templating his next golf shot — was auctioned off at a charity event for $18,000. When it comes to production time, Green says it often takes more time to research a subject than to paint it. He usually looks for details from a variety of pic- tures or images before coming up with a pose, facial expression or other details. He then sketches the drawing before using water- colors for the final product. “Hf it’s a single image, | can do itin a week sometimes,” he says. Most of his work is for adver- tisers, plate collectors or for pri- vate customers, although he has done some contract work for spe- cific teams such as_ the Vancouver Canucks, the Winnipeg Jets, the Vancou-ver Canadians and the B.C. Lions. Ideally, he suggests, the Canucks will win the Stanley Cup and Kirk McLean will win the MVP. Many Lower Mainland hockey fans echo his sentiments. Brew pub brews a popular choice From page 23 where it is served from the pump spigots of authentic British “beer engines.” As Brian Riedlinger says, “It (beer) doesn’t get any fresher.” But investment in such fresh- ness and the aforementioned betterment of local beerdom does not come cheap: the Riedlingers sunk about $500,000 into their brewery. Response thus far to their gamble has been extremely encouraging. The brewery’s taps opened on May 15, and already its brews account for about 70% of the beer sold at Sailor Hagar’s, according to Brian Riedlinger. That response bodes well for not only the Riedlingers and their inspired foray into local brewing, but also for the fans of real ales and the guarclians of craftsmanship and handmade quality everywhere. Glasses raised then, me lads, and a hearty toast to the Riedlingers and Sailor Hagar’s, this time courtesy of that famed wordsmith and bon vivant Alfred Edward Houseman: “Oh many a peer of Enusland brews | SATURDAY, JUNE Livelier liquor than the Muse, ore , , q And matt does more than : .
