Board member Michael Smith said at the school board’s Monday meeting that the board of health agreed to provide the full-time equivalent of one psychologist and two health nurses to the school district for the 1987-1988 school year. West Vancouver Schoo! District had the full-time equivalent of 1.5 psychologists last year. This new arrangement will cost the board $160,000 per year. Wrigley, who described himself as an ‘told newspaperman”’ in a profile published earlier this year in the North Shore News, spent three years working for the Win- nipeg Free Press as a young man before moving west to Vancouver in 1909 to establish the B.C. Direc- tory and a group of trade journals. An avid stamp collector, sailor, lawn bowler and gardener, Wrigley made headlines when he donated a one-of-a-kind stamp collection to the Canadian Cancer Society. It was auctioned off and the proceeds raised $40,000 for the society. Over the years he garnered many national and international awards for his stamp collections. Wrigley became a member of the Rotary Club in 1916 and was a major benefactor for the West Vancouver Foundation and the ROY WRIGLEY Vancouver Foundation.
