MANY PET owners are looking for healthier pet foods with
less additives and preservatives, the owner of a Lower
Mainland pet food company says.

of Mount Seymour Pet Foods
Ltd., says he thinks people are fol-
lowing the same health conscious
trends for their pets that they are
following for themselves.

Since the family took over the
company in November, 1984, the
company’s sales have roughly
doubled, all on the basis of the
all-natural pet foods.

“We've moved the product up
to number two (in the market),”’
he explains.

The company, which was one of
the first in Western Canada to can
pet food, opened its new plant
April }.

The 20,000-square-foot facility
has an annual capacity of | million
cases.

Davids says the company
employs a specially trained person
to oversee the nutritional quality
of the product. *‘You can make an
old tire have all the necessary
(dietary) requirements,’’ he says.
“But if the dogs can’t use it then
it’s not much good.”

When Davids took over the
company, he inherited what is ef-
fectively the products’ symbol — a
massive St. Bernard on a colored
background. ‘‘It (the dog) doesn’t
have a name,”’ he explains. ‘‘it’s
just something that came with the
company.”’
