THERE’S GOOD news
for West Vancouver
Municipal employees as
Council has decided to
shut down the District
offices on December 24.

According to a.memo from
Walter Reynolds, the
District’s Director of Person-

nel Services, ‘‘A poll was
conducted and the employees
are in favor of the closure.”’

The approved resolution
stated, ‘‘Employees who are
members of the West Van
Municipal Employees’
Association ‘at locations
other than the Municipal
Hall, the Recreation Com-
plex, the Municipal Yard,
and ‘Satellite? work sites of
the ‘outside’ Parks Dept.,
may be permitted by their
dept. head to have the 24th of
December off without pay or
with pay by use of vacation
time, gratuity time, or other
banked time.”’

' For workers at the above

mentioned locations it will
simply be a day of unpaid
leave.

Besides the obvious cost-
saving results of the action,
Council has allowed the day
off because the day before
Christmas is a Monday. All
agreed it would not be useful
to, have everyone working
one day, in between four
days off. Municipal offices
aré closed December 25 and
26.

Permit
plan to
bylaw

AN APPLICATION to
designate the commercially-
zoned properties along the
Marine Drive Corridor as
development permit areas
has been sent to bylaw by
North Vancouver District
Council.

According to a_ District
staff report, the area in ques-
tion includes the ‘‘commer-
cial spine’’ along Marine
Drive and the lower Capilano
Road area.

The intent of the coming
bylaw is to ensure that the
development permit area pro-
vides for ‘‘greater flexibility
and ...improvement in
overall design.’’
